1. The Journey: My Story as a Project Management Professional (PMP) About 10 years ago, I dreamt of becoming a Project Management Professional (PMP). It took a lot of effort and money, but it was worth it. For the past 8 years, I've been a project management coach and instructor in Canada, US, UK and LATAM, a role I enjoy immensely. I've often been asked about the PMP certification, one of the most sought-after in the market.
2. Costs: What Does It Take to Get PMP Certified? One of the most common questions is, "How much does it cost to get certified?" The answer depends on various factors. Here’s a summary of the costs and steps involved:
1. PMI Membership: I recommend becoming a PMI member. You can join at www.pmi.org, and the fee is approximately 139 USD.
2. Exam Fee: For PMI members, the exam costs 405 USD.
3. Project Management Education: You must complete a course of at least 35 hours in project management. Many candidates use Andrew Ramdayal's courses for preparation. I recommend it.
4. Preparation Simulator: Use a preparation simulator like the Pocket Prep App or PMI Study Hall, which includes practice questions and study resources. 1. Experience and Knowledge: What Is the PMP Exam Like? The exam consists of 180 questions created by project leaders, with a blend of theoretical and practical components. Each question typically has 2-3 correct answers, but one is the best option, demonstrating your experience and knowledge. The exam lasts nearly 4 hours with two 10-minute breaks allowed.

The PMP certification validates your highly developed skills in:

1. People: Demonstrates your ability to lead, motivate, and develop a project team.
2. Processes: Shows your capability to manage projects using various approaches like predictive, agile, and hybrid methods.
3. Business Environment: Confirms your ability to align the project with business needs and fulfill the value and business case requirements.

1. Maintaining Your Certification with Professional Development Units (PDUs) To maintain your PMP certification, you need to earn 60 PDUs annually. Here’s my PDU dashboard to date:

Continuous education is at the heart of PMI certifications. The field of project, program, and portfolio management is constantly evolving, and staying up-to-date with industry changes is crucial.

Once you obtain your PMP certification, you must earn a minimum number of PDUs in the three elements of PMI’s Talent Triangle:

1. Ways of Working (WOW): Previously known as technical project management.
2. Business Acumen: Previously known as strategy and business.
3. Power Skills: Previously known as leadership.

Some ways to earn PDUs include:

1. Courses and training offered by ATPs or REP organizations.
2. Attending chapter meetings or organizational meetings.
3. Online activities.
4. Reading books and blogs related to project management.
5. Presentations and knowledge sharing.
